Microscopy Education

The Blyth Institute previously engaged in many microscopy education activities, including a mobile microscopy lab and a microscope leasing program. These have been largely discontinued, but this page is maintained for archive and history purposes.

Mobile Microscopy Lab

The Blyth Institute’s Mobile Microscopy Lab was an educational experience that comes to you!  The microscopy lab served central and northeastern Oklahoma, exhibiting at maker fairs, homeschool conventions, and individual science classes. It featured over a dozen different microscopes of various kinds, slide-making equipment, staining equipment and chemicals, and other microscope tools. Blyth Institute staff would instruct students on proper techniques of both slide preparation and microscope usage. The equipment even included a photomicroscope to allow students to take pictures and video of their favorite specimens.

See below a video of our microscopy lab in action!

Microscope Lease Program

The Blyth Institute supplied low-cost microscopes for local science classrooms from 2016 until 2025, including everything from basic student microscopes to more advanced laboratory-grade microscopes. These microscopes were primarily utilized by homeschool co-op programs in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City areas. Upon closure of the program, the microscopes were donated to local charter schools and homeschool co-op programs.
